I put a low km second hand engine in my RRC over 2 years ago. It has been (mostly) very good and a much cheaper option than rebuilding the original engine (which I still intend to do).

the D1 has gone into the shop to be resuscitated , 3.9L V8 ...
a few opinions ...?
is the cost a rebuild worth it it the long run ?
or would you go with a S/H long motor to replace the worn out one???
cheers

at this stage it has a blown head ...but I'm quite confident that once they get in there, there will be more wrong than right ... both prices of a S/H engine only come with a three month warranty ... so just a bit hesitant ..
How does a conditioned V8 compare with a reconditioned upgraded Tdi in these days of rising fuel costs?
My secondhand V8 came with no warranty (private sale), but the purchase price reflected that. I had a slight issue with a coolant leak from the intake manifold gasket, but since then it has been very good. I estimate I have done about 50 000km on it now. I fitted it myself.
my 3.9 got a full rebuild by Graeme Coopers, 5000km later developed a slipped liner. 5k thrown away by previous owner. Buy a low km secondhand motor, I'm still looking for one myself, but I'll go for the 3.5 high comp instead.
cheers
