It still starts and runs beautifully (that scorcher dizzy and coil was the best thing I ever did for it by a country mile - Holden and Ford V8 combined dizzy with Australian Bosch HEI module). It pulls really hard and is supersmooth. I run LPG most of the time.

    Cheers

PS. The series 1 motors seem to run cooler and more reliably than series 2 actually.

i also have a 95 v8 3.9 manual its now clocked up 310,000 iv never had any real trouble with my motor do all oil changes , filters plugs etc m,ine 100% origonal sept the alternator and power steer pump also the radiator is a 4 core instead of the standard 3 core, i did compression test it with basic pression tester all seemed good 116psi been the lowest to 120psi been the best

Nice mate. My brother also had a high miles 3.9 - a 94 model manual with 350,000k and it did a lot of towing (2 tonn plus) to comp meets etc and it still sounded good and ran well on sale recently.

then you wouldnt have a 4WD anymore hey... just a RWD...

as already mentioned by others, freshen up your 3.9, or another option, search for another 3.9, stroke it and all that yadda yadda, then when you're ready, just do an engine change out over a weekend with ya mates

Why, i had a holden 3.8L V6 qith a matching box and still had AWD etc.
It was a shocking combination but worked.
I have seen a couple of 5L 308 combos also and the worked fine, not sure what box was used though.
It does make the front end a bit heavier though.

Good advice everyone. I thank you all for the comments.
I think I will stick to the 3.9 LR v8 I've got. Engine conversions sound good in theory but (and theres always a but) the cost and replacement of the engine and eventually the whole drivetrain no doubt far outweighs the value of the car.

I found best/easiest/ legal and reliable conversion is to get a 4.6 with high compression, some head work, good cam and new computer plus perhaps extractors etc and get cooling system purged and checked and you will have a almost bullet proof powerful combo.
Just my experience from doing up and having had 9 of these suckers now.

    Good luck.
