    I was out with my friend in his Ford Explorer on the weekend, up at Lancelin. Second time out with his new Ranchos, and they basically gave out.

    The bottom sprint support on the struts gave way on both sides, leaving the car body resting on the tyres. Not pretty.

    We had to get the truck towed home.

    my inlaws went through 3 sets driving from melbourne to broome, at one point he took them out as they were doing nothing at all. Buy Koni or Bilstien, they suit rovers well

    I like the idea of in cab adjustable shockies, what other brands make them?

    I looked at King coils shocks, they are as expensive as sin but on paper sound very good

    Are Landies hard on shocks or is it the extra wieght? I 've had a 10yr run 150000kms with rs9000 ranchos on a 60mm lifted Jimny they were fantastic... but much lighter 4wd, I was wanting to go ranchos with my Disco1 due to having such a good run, maybe not such a good idea hey. The ride adaptability is what I'm after

    Coil sprung Land Rovers have softer springs than say Jeeps so there is a lot more deflection of the spring over bumps etc.

    The main failure of Ranchos seems to be the top eye breaking off and this suggests that either they cannot take the angle changes and fatigue, or the flexibility of the suspension means that they get more stress from going to max articulation and limiting the spring.

    I do not know but they are sure slow learners!

    My current 94 Disco had Rancho shocks fitted when I purcased it a few years back and all 4 of them were stuffed (they were 2 years old according to prev. owner), fitted the Bilstiens off my 93 Disco which had been on there for several years.
    The Bilstiens have performed flawlessly and when they do wear out I can have them rebuilt for less than a set of Rancho crap, Regards Frank.
