    NOISY FUEL INJECTORS

    G'day All,
I'm getting to know my '96 V8i Disco, and I feel it's down on power. The only obvious thing I've noticed is the injectors are very noisy

My last LR was an '85 RR Hiline with a professional 5.0L Holden injected motor conversion done on it. The injectors on that engine were inaudible compared to the ones on the Disco. My previous 4WD was a Pajero 2.5 intercooled turbo diesel, and dare I say it the Disco is slower on the hills I regularly drive on and even slower with the boat on than the diesel was

With the exception of the Range Rover, this is my first manual V8 and I've got to say I expected it to perform better than it does. It feels sluggish until the tach reads about 2500, then picks up once above 3000. The owners book says to drive with the engine speed in the range between 2000 and 4000 rpm. the previous owner had it serviced by KLR Automotive in Kingswood NSW, and some repairs were done including a MAF[?] plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor button. According to the receipt they were all replaced with genuine LR parts. I have never driven a Disco before, let alone a V8 one so I have nothing to compare it too. It's done 260,000 km now. Starts OK, but sometimes the idle speed is erratic and varies between nil and 1500 rpm all by itself. It doesn't do this all the time though. It uses a lot of fuel in my opinion but it is a heavy car, with constant 4WD after all. I mainly bought the Disco to make launching and retrieving my old 'glass runabout as I can use it in low range without the centre difflock engaged, brilliant for reversing the boat trailer!
Should I see the people at KLR Automotive again re the lack of power issue?
I really like the Disco, smooth on the road and the right height for entry and exit for my crook back[no bending!]
    All advise appreciated people!

    Cheers Will.

Those injectors are a bit noisy. They are fired in 2 groups of 4 so you hear 4 at a time.

Try advancing your ignition timing from stock, 8 to 10 degrees advance at idle seems to work well. This will increase torque noticeably.
