And that was the day that I blew the rear diff

Well, I am sure I am not the first and I definitely wont be the last. But man, COME ON!!! Little bit frustrating as it was shaping up to be a great day out. Was doing a little bit of 4WD at the Power lines north of Perth and was at the second last hardest piece of the track when drama happened... Yep, blew the rear diff. Spiders I think. Haven't pulled it out yet, but tail shaft and axles are out. The spider gear flew around the diff and shot a hole in the rear housing.... Could it get any worse. As luck would have it, I was with the boys from work and the were awesome in giving us a tow home. For that I am forever grateful.

Just think of it as your landie telling you it wants an upgrade to something better. The AU$ is still high against the US$

Me thinks so too. For the record... the rear diff was sounding a little bit sick before this

Next time (and there will be a next time), you can leave the axles in place.

When the pin breaks, the axles become disconnected from each other & the CW/P so can't do any harm by spinning around.

Nah, the spider gear spat out and put a hole in the housing. So no, the axles will come out first next time along with the tail shaft. But next time will be a detroit, so hopefully no next time

I know, been there done that, but leaving the axles in place just saves having to tape up the axle end.

    Bummer.

    How did it actually happen?

Did it just go under load, or were wheels off the ground and then it went when they grabbed again?
