300 Tdi Engine Swap - what do I need?

Hi guys just assembling everything I need to put a replacement 300 Tdi engine into a 1997 auto. The old engine is already out, air con still gassed up and brakes still working. It needs a new radiator (I have been quoted $600 plus - ouch!) and maybe a new powered steering pump as thereis major play in the pulley.

What do I need to drop the new engine in, in the way of parts an tools? I have the filters and oil to do a basic engine service, what do I need to mate the engine with the transmission?

Anything else I should carry out while the engine is out of the bay? I would be grateful for any suggestions, I have never done anything on this sort of scale before!

    consider turbo service

you can buy cheaper radiators from uk, I've seen threads on here, search around for..

Just a good socket set and some good spanners. I pulled my engine out and put a new one back in with basic DIY workshop tools at home. A torque wrench is a must though.

Have some degreaser for cleaning, plenty of rags and some gasket sealant aswell. Some locktite is also handy for certain bolts.

Clutch and pressure plate should be checked whilst out and if replaced, have fly wheel machined.

Rear main seal also leak and easy to do whilst out.

Whats wrong with radiator? Will a recon do?

Give engine bay a good clean and degrease donk whilst out I would have thought be easy now.

Best of luck, dont rush it and when you strip a knuckle, let go of a couple of swear words and have a cuppa/beer.

Thanks everyone, keep them coming, great advice. One thing that astounds me is the price of the radiator from434.50 at Roverparts to $911 at Autoparts, I am told the core needs replacement as the cooling fins are totally corroded, they just flake off. I'll have a phone around next week to get recore prices

    Engine swap?

Hi, my 300tdi in the 1995 disco is getting a bit tired and smokey. Any suggestions for where I can get a replacement to just drop straight in? or is there a better motor that could consider - ie. isuzu?

I got the replacement engine from Gympie - Gold City Landrover Spares, you could also try British Off Road at Forest Glen and online. I have no experience of any other motors
