As you know .... There's lot's of parts that can give this symptom

Rather than us guessing ... Why don't you give us some history of your ride and the maintenance done and including your cooling system

Also .... can you describe how you were driving and the temp of the day ....

    Cheers
    Mike

Can you hear the roar of the engine fan? If not you need a new coupling.

Last time mine did that it was the expansion tank cap.
Quick and cheap to try. First time
It was the tank itself split.
    Hope this helps,

Take it to a mechanic and get them to do Radiator gas check to see if you have a blown head gasket, Regards Frank.

did the temp gauge rise aswell? I had an issue with it spewing water out of the expansion tank and new cap fixed the problem.

Failing that if the temp is running hot then get the radiator rodded.

I did that too Frank, replaced my head gaskets, didn't fix the problem. $15 cap did though.
