Mate: No question is stupid Of the top of my head there should be a large flanged nut on the bottom of the box towards the passengers side. There is no way you can screw it so it falls into the box. Just remember there are two things to check and they are both seperate. The gear box and the transfer case.

here is a pic I prepared earlier today
R380 gear box. I believe it's on the right side not left

PS: before you release all your gear box oil, make sure that you can undo the torx bolt on the fillhole, It happen to me once I let the oil drain and then found some turkey had not used the right tool to unscrew it ,the + was mangled, so I was unable to refill. took me ages to remove as access is not good. I ended up migging a bolt to it just to undo it.

Remember to that the gearbox requires different oil to the transfer case. TC is 80W90 like the diffs, manual box is 75W85. Matt

ATF until late Suffix J, then through K, and L (1997 to 2004). They took MTF94 which is no longer available, equivalent oil is any 75w85 synthetic gear oil. To be certain of anything to do with R380 etc, check out Ashcroft Transmissions UK website.

IIRC the TSB announcing the change in lube spec was made retrospective for all R380's too.
