What size battery for v8 D1? (currently has 440cca)

Pretty sure my battery is stuffed in my V8 D1 and was wondering what the standard rating is for a battery in one of these because I've never had to replace this one yet. Currently it's a 440cca Century battery...should I be going bigger?

From memory the manual states a 550cca, I do tend to put as big a battery as possibly though.

Everybody has their idea of what is best but I believe their life is pretty short anyhow because of the heat under the hood.

My last 2 I had changed I just called the local road service mob, did a wicked job and took the old ones away.

My starter is a 580cca and the one running the fridges is what they call a dual-purpose so I can run my fridge for 60hrs non stop.

Someone said something about calcium batteries being no good for charging with the Discos or something...is there a certain kind of battery that I should look for over others for some odd reason? I wouldn't see why this would matter.

Hi All,Just a quick foot note on the AGM and Spiral Wound(Optima and Exide Obital etc),they do require 14.2v or more to charge properly.I run 3 Exide Orbital's,1 starting and 2aux and foundthat running an extra 10mm charge cable running through a 100 amp fuse gives me 14.3v at the battery, and they charge to full from flat in about 45 to 60 mins driving...

Well I just went and got a great battery from Moorabbin Batteries which was a great price by the way...highly recommended!...and it fits fine into my Disco only the threads that the holding down plate screws on to are now too short to reach over the new battery because it is a little bigger than what was in there before. The longer thread that screws into the chassis seems to have a little more length in it underneath which I can screw out of it while still leaving enough in the bottom but the hook thread which hooks into the chassis at the rear of the battery is too short and I need to get a longer bit for it.

Where would I find something like that?

    Hi Young angus

You didnt say how many CCA u got?

Not one to ignore the manual, but 440 CCA battery should be fine.
I have a 440 CCA in 350 Chev which starts fine, plenty of reserve power in it.
    I don't see why it would struggle with a little 4.0 V8

I agree generally the bigger the better, but sometimes its not really necessary.

Ahh well I ended up getting a 650 CCA which is great. I agree the 440 worked fine for me since I got the car but since it's time was up I thought why not replace it with something that is recommended since there wasn't much cost difference between that and smaller ones.

Try any auto place you just need a new battery clamp. Most of them come too long and you cut them down to suit
