    Disco 1 suspension choices

My '97 Disco has stock, slightly sagged suspension, and I'd like to put a kit under it to give it a couple of inches lift.
I don't want anything extreme, just something that will get me to my favorite fishing/hunting spots, and make it sit level with the camper/tinny attached.

I have thoroughly searched the forum for info on the different brands available, pros and cons, and I'm now officially bewildered ........

I've been around the local stores and priced Ironman, OME, Dobsons, TJM, and Tough Dog, and after a bit of haggling all prices are within a $300 spread, Ironman cheapest, TJM dearest.

I was leaning towards Dobsons or Tough Dog, but I've found people who love and loathe all of them, and if I'm going to spend that sort of money, I want to get it right.

    No, I can't afford Bilsteins ......

    Any opinions greatly appreciated.

    Thumbs up stock disco

    hello tim,

its your daily driver and weekend fishing taxi, save your coin and go IRONMAN 4X4. im not saying its cheap but its ideal for what you need, 2 inch lift will pick your droopy disco way up off the floor. however id opt for the foam cell shocks, a much nicer ride.

"Cheap" is the word that keeps popping up re Ironman, but their foamcell kits, Dobsons and Tough Dog were all within $50 of each other.
TJM was the dearest by a long way.

I just Installed a set of dobsons in my 97 and i must say im extreamly happy with them. Plenty of height and not so harsh they rattle teeth out.
its also sitting level (for the first time in years) with a heavy trailer on it.

Value for money id recomend them over anything else but thats just me.

I bought a set of Lovell 2" lift springs for my first 93 Disco and 4 bilstein shocks and dampener back in 2005, I have transferred the springs and shocks to the next 2 Discos, a 93 V8 and now a 94 300TDi.
The Lovell springs cost $320 and are individually made for each corner of the Disco and are marked accordingly, I have an ARB front bar and a winch also.
These springs have not sagged over this period and give a real 2" lift.
What can I say about Bilstien shocks, I only paid $500 second hand off eBay, the bloke I bought them off had them fitted to his Disco II along with 2" lift springs and when he got home he couldn't get into his garage, I believe you can get a set from the USA for around that price. They will outlast any of the other brand names and they can be rebuilt when they do finally wear out. So my recommendation is Lovells for springs and Bilstien for shocks, Regards frank.

brno465, I've just installed a 2 inch lift using EFS springs, shocks and steering damper for $1300 fitted down at Carroll springs in wacol (not to far from where you are) one of the cheapest quotes I got from all of the big brands.

Give it a few months for the springs to sag and you will find out why...
