Disco doesn't like the water!
Hi there,
I have a 98 V8 Disco that doesn't like to go through too much water!
Took it out on the weekend went through some water and it spurted like a sick dog. Turned it off, let it sit for 2 mins and she was right. Later on I went through a large rut with water in it, hit it with a bit of speed and wosh! She started chugging and spluttering as well as hazard lights coming on! Any help with this would be appreciated.
Cheers Luke
It also has a snorkel fitted

The problem usually is water being thrown up by the fan on to the distributor. If you fit a bash plate to the front bar this will help. It will work as a splash guard.

Thanks for the info, I have already installed a bash plate! Is there a way to seal the distributor from water. I'd had thought of giving it a spray of CRC before going out and see if that helps, its no fix though.

Just buy a decent set of new leads, the Bosch ones are good in the wet. You don't want to seal a dissy, as any moisture then gets trapped in there. Just make a plastic/rubber shield between the fan and the dissy, taking into account the fan splash direction. It needs to stop direct splash getting under the edge of the cap.
CRC on the dissy cap is for emergencies, it attracts dirt and makes the problem worse afterwards. Clean shiny dissy caps shed water.
