Really pleased for you Angus.....I'm always apprehensive about cars until I've spent a few months laying underneath them and generally sussing them out....It always pays to have a professional opinion on most things......
It surprisingly got a really good bill of health! Took it to Range Rover Automotive in Vermont for a proper look over by the professionals as I've been meaning to do for a while, just had to wait till I had the money saved up just in case
There were a few things that needed attention but overall they said that it was actually a really good Disco in great shape. I basically asked them to give me a report saying whether they thought it was a worthwhile vehicle or a bucket of trouble so I was pretty happy to hear what they said.
The gas converter was apparently full of wax and just needed replacing. Not too pricey and now it runs better on gas. Happy!
Turns out I was right in that the car still seemed way too hot under the bonnet and there was something to do with the viscous fan that wasn't working properly...either way, they detected the problem and it was only a couple of hundred dollars to get a new one of whatever it was in there and I can already tell it's running heaps cooler. While I was at it I got them to replace the coolant reservoir which they fitted for free since they were in the area and the coolant was out (they replaced the water pump too which I got from Roverlord parts...thanks Mario!) Very happy!!!
They gave it a tune and changed the fluids, and get this...they even said the leaks weren't that bad. A couple of bad hoses and a rocker cover gasket that needs replacing and he said it should actually end up being a really dry leak free Disco...AMAZING!!! I'm going to save up a bit more for that one but to do all the leaks he said it would only be around $500 which to me isn't too bad. Leak free Disco is possible
All in all it was a fairly pricey visit but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be and I'm happy, have a lot more confidence in the car now that I've actually had people give it a pretty good wrap that are pros.
I'm still going to be in the market for a great TDi because I want one for long range stuff but now it means it just might be a little bit easier to sell my V8 and I won't feel guilty about selling it![]()

Exactly, and since I'm not a mechanic myself (although I am learning heaps) I was always going to get the pros to give it a proper once over and give me their opinion...glad it turned out to be a good one![]()
Thats great buddy, you were a bit down on it at one stage.
Good feeling having some positive feedback and it gives you confidence in case you heading out bush etc.![]()
