Front drivers window not working till approx 3mins after startup...WTH???

Here's a new one, all my windows were working fine for ages. The only problem I had in the start was the rear windows not working and I re-soldered the dry joint on the ECU circuit board and all was good.

Just today after driving it I found out that the cd stacker under the passenger seat actually works by pushing the "cd" button on the radio and it kicked into action...something that had never happened before when I tried it so I had just made peace with the fact that it didn't work. Anyway it worked, surprise surprise!

A half hour later I took the car up to the shops and noticed that as soon as I turned it on and went to wind down the drivers front window it wouldn't move, nothing happened when I pushed the button. All the other windows worked fine though. Then after about 3 - 5 minutes of the car being on and driving the front drivers window started working as normal. It didn't start cutting in and out it just worked as if nothing had ever gone wrong.

Turned the car off, went to the shops, got back in and same thing again...drivers front window didn't work until after about 3 - 5 minutes of driving then it worked fine.

Has anyone ever experienced this before?

Well the window seems to be working fine now as I just took it for a drive and it worked straight away. Not sure what that was, still wondering if anyone else has every come across that funny problem.

I've had the same thing, except it was the usual rear windows.

Sometimes they would work straight away, sometimes not.

Generally they didn't work straight away, and then would after a few minutes of driving, until one day they didn't work at all and then they just started working again and then stopped one day when they were down, never to work again.

I have heard the same symptoms as these and yours for the fronts as well.

It is usually attributed to the dry joints in the window lift ecu.

The rear ones normally go first, very occasionally the front ones can go also.

You could try looking at the ecu again, or maybe replace the ecu with a secondhand one.

    Cheers,

if it keeps happening I'll check out the ECU again, the last thing I want is it to happen while they're down and not be able to get them up again.

Ben you said you resoldered the ecu dry joint, may be there are others that might need a zap with the soldering iron. You said it is ok after 5 mins then that could mean that driving the bumps and movement of the car might connect the joint enough to make contact.

Or it could be the console window switch has a dirty rocker contact.

Well I would have thought that both the front windows are on the same joint like the back ones are (ie. there isn't a separate solder joint for each window) and the front passenger works just fine. Might be just the console window switch playing up, I'll check it out.
