I've been putting off replacing the vacuum advance, been too busy sorting other things. I basically knew since I got the Disco that it was toast. So I finally got around to it this week.
I should have done this first, as the improvement in driveability is well worth the effort. She drives a lot smoother.
Now to see what improvement I get on the fuel consumption.
The recon unit came from Advance Diaphragm Options in Brisbane who gave excellent service. I can well recommend them.

yeah when i did mine and moved were it got its vacum from to the plenum and re timed it to 4 degres + i gained an extra 3 ltrs per hundred down to 18 and thats with 33x12.5x15 so not to badbetter than 22-23 ltr per hundred
haha best $120 from rova craft driveability is so much better can now run on normal unleaded with no black smoke when you give it the beans haha
might have to look at mine.. my consumption is rediculous at the moment. I just had a snorkle fitted and that improved it but im getting no more than 400 kms to a tank on road driving, off road its crazy bad. If that improved it then it would pay for its self pretty quick.

Where exactly on the plenum did you move the vacuum take off to? Did it mean tapping a new hole in the plenum?
Mine is from the pipe almost directly above the throttle body, which I assume is the standard position.
On the 33's I have been getting 18lt/100km but that is really driving for ecomomy plus I do mostly short distances as I work 7km from home.
On long trips. on the motorway, it doesn't get much better and on the beach it's.
From closer inspetion i belived the on on top of the manifold to be before the throttle butterfly which means it wouldnt actually have a proper vacum it would only have a venturi effect which wont move much at all so i moved it to were the small crank case vent tube joins into the plenum I think it works better as it seams to drive smoother than it did before and runs well on normal unleaded again just from my observations i may be incorect but hey
The "normal" port on top of the manifold works perfectly well as the throttle plate needs to move to about 10% opening to apply full vacuum to the port. However they are known to block up, a strand of old steel cable can be used to unblock it, or remove the nipple and use a small drill bit with the throttle wide open. No economy gains from full vacuum at idle but then again your idle advance should be up to 10 degrees BTDC too.
