Question Help pls. Whining noise under power...300tdi Auto!

    G'day.

What is the go with 95 300tdi auto box that only makes a whining noise under power from about 50km/h upwards?

As soon as I let the accelerator go it stops but starts as the power comes on. It is a loud whining noise, almost like a wheel bearing but worse. It also makes a bit of vibration.

I have new oil in both diffs, t-case (which is reconditioned) and auto box. Wheel bearings are fine.

Still new to the Landy world so give it to me pls

Give us some clues, lad. Whining from where? Back, front, centre, lefthand seat? It sounds like characteristic gear/bearing loading/unloading noise, and I'd guess from transfer case to start with.

Did it happen before you changed the transmission oils?

But the general location will give major clues to the probable cause.

    Thx Pete

It sounds forward from the center and changing oils did not change the noise. All the gears work perfect in hi and low incl. dff lock. I am guessing it is not the torque converter and may be the front diff?? Will try it without the front drive shaft to isolate the problem. May have a bearing playing up?

Maybe it's your wife shouting "What's that terrible noise" over and over as the revving Tdi assails her ears.

That was my first thought , make her sit in the back - but owning a tdi auto i can tell you there is no such noise when i hit the loud pedal.
Is it constant and does it increase/decrease with the revs ?

What's the go, champ? Did the left hand seat passenger see the post and you're still in the doghouse and can't test for noise in the front diff?

My bucks are still on the transfer case...especially if it has been reconditioned.
