    Disco window regulator

    Hi Chasps
Passenger front window glass on my Disco 1 has dropped lower than should and electric motor won't engage now. The rollers appear to be ok. I can't see what limits the travel. Any ideas? Checked driver's side and found half a roller in the bottom of the door so withdrew mechanism only to find all rollers intact so it must have been left from a previous repair!
    Thanks.
P.S. As a first timer I'm finding it wonderfully interesting and helpful to browse through past posts. To think this has been going on for years without my knowledge!

    Hi
I'm pretty sure that if you look at the sliding track that the window sits (the one the rollers go on) on it should have both ends slightly crimped so that the rollers cannot come out of the track. Since this has to stay at a certain angle when attached to the window the roller hits these before the motor winds off the gears.

    Hi Josh
There's a definite clunk when the window bottoms. If it relied on the roller hitting the crimped end of the track I think the rollers would soon break.

    Hi
On further inspection on one end of the geared part there is a part where the gears stop but the metal continues this is the stop for the fully down position the fully up is the window hitting the top of the door.
    Cheers

    Hi Josh
On close inspection I can see where the end of the gear has worn away. I'll remove and weld. I was looking for a more positive stop like the rubber bump stops on the suspension. Seems dodgy but obviously works.
    Thanks for your help.

Can't help making an additional comment about the window winder limiting mechanism - it's a bit like a child putting his foot in the spokes to stop a bike. Fancy risking damage to a gear like that. I suppose it's quite common. I notice also there's no spring to compensate for the weight when raising the window. How the world is changing.
