    Insurance renewal arrived today!

Hi all, my insurance renewal arrived and I was wondering if anyone can recommend an alternative. I have fully comp on my '94 ES so does anyone have a recommendation who to use.

    Thanks

Real difference between companies will be what they do not cover... I am with AAMI and as long as I am on a public road (forest, fire trail, tar, etc etc) no issue. If I am on private land, and do something silly, may have to issues.

Youi, I just got new insurance for a new purchase and its got a few off road mods too and they are by far the cheapest...not sure what they're like to claim with but their service so far has been surprisingly great.

They also specified that so long as the vehicle is being used "within manufacturers specifications" then it's covered, so that includes off-roading and stuff so long as you don't go too silly with it which exceeds the "manufacturers specs".

I am afraid my attitude is that when a premium gets over 10% of the value of the vehicle I self insure.

I would think that would be the case with a 94 D1 and I would only be looking at Third party property, which also will give $5000 to you in a no fault accident with NRMA.

Unless you consider your driving is so poor that you will have an At fault accident within 10 years( or whatever the multiple of premium to car insured value maybe 8) that is more than the no claim value plus hike in insurance premium for the next year . ( usually maybe 2G)

I had my 97 Disco with NRMA for years but the premium went up and the price insured went down to the point where it got ridiculous (insured for 6k and insurance $900!!). Anyway this year I shopped around and ended up going with AAMI for a much better deal, Agreed value $8,300 fully comp $325. only thing is I went with a higher excess (2k) to keep the price down, i'm still in front though considering the NRMA would only give me 6k if I wrote the car off.

I remember calling the NRMA regarding the annual premium increase's vs the sum insured and they explained that as the car got older the repair cost are higher due to parts availability. What a load of BS as they would just write it off if it did get pranged given the value they put on the car.

    be wary of NRMA.
neighbour (with NRMA) ran into the '95 disco with his outboard fin and punctured the side, had to make an appointment to see an assessor halfway the other side of town, then wait while they hunted up a repairer which was nowhere near me and sounded like a bodgy brother, he didnt know when he could do it as he was getting parts from England.
while waiting for the call from the panel beater and worrying about what quality issues i was going to have with the job i called my insurer to advice them of the work being done.
they suggested i claim under them with no penalty, my choice of panel shop and that panel shop quoted approx $1000 cheaper.
job done to a very high standard and smooth as silk

DGA Insurance Brokers provide "Australian 4wd Insurance" underwritten by Allianz. They provide for on and off-road cover including beach and private tracks and all modifications.

Comprehensive Premium for my 96 Disco actually went down last renewal and is $650.

As I go off-road regularly and have numerous modifications, they provide a good compromise between price and cover.

I have only claimed once for a new windscreen. Simple claim and handled efficiently.

The only downside is that accessories/modifications are not fully covered in the event of a write off. But it is a 15 year old car, so I don't expect to be able to cover all the money spent on it.

I have my 95 disco and 3 classic Triumphs with Shannons. Everytime I add another classic I get another discount. You do not need to own a classic either.
