HI Mate,

First up, I would stick with the standard 16 inch alloys.

As for how wide you can go with tyres, I run a 265x70 R16 ATR tyre, manufactured by Silverstone, its the AT -117 Special. Good value tyre and has stood up well to a range of offroad driving.

I don't think you can go wider that than that without offset rims etc.

Also,I think without flares, the tyre will sit a bit proud of the bodywork, which will not pass rego afaik.

I have also put on flares, done a camel cut and adjusted the bump stops, just so you know.

I would not go bigger than 33 inch tyres...the tyre I run is a 32 inch, but I do know people are running around with 33's, so it can be done, with a bit of work.

Going up to 35's means a whole lot of work on suspension, diff ratios etc, not worth it in my opinion.

Yep, did it myself with a pair of aviation tin snips.

Not the neatest of jobs, but those flares do hide a multitude of sins

Recommend you buy the flares overseas, get the hard plastic ones, not the fiberglass.

I sideswiped a steel bollard and the hard plastic flare handled it fine - it pulled out of a few screw holes, but was an easy fix - a fibre glass one would have been ruined.

By the way, I have a 3 door, if you have a 5 door you will need a grinder. just do a search for camel cut and you wil find all you need to know, its a well worn conversation around here.

With the grinder and camel cut, make sure you use one of the 1mm cutting discs, cuts clean and does not heat the metal and paint like the fatter discs. By the way, all I needed for my 235/85 16's with 30mm offset wheels (and 2" spring lift) was a small cut and a bracket extension at the mudflaps to push the guard out a bit.
