Have hopefully solved the mysterious blowing fuse number 8 !!!!
As some of you might know I just bought a Tdi off Big Guy who previously bought it off Waynep...both great forum members and the car is a gem to drive and I love it. So glad I went over to the Tdi!!!
Anyway both previous owners had the problem of fuse number 8 blowing every now and then taking out the dash lights as well as the centre console lights, and neither of them to my knowledge had ever looked into it far enough to figure out what was causing it.
Anyway I did a little internet search and found out that this exact thing had happened to a few other people around the world and one of the main causes that had been found was that the plastic glove box light had broken or was never very good to begin with and as such something in this little light was touching the steel mounting bracket and shorting out, blowing fuse 8. I then remembered that one of the previous owners had said something about the glove box light so I got it out and sure enough it was all broken and taped up with some electrical tape, so someone had done something to it but it could have easily been shorting out. I unplugged the terminals and took out the light casing so there is no light in the glove box now at all but I don't really care about that, at least until I can get a new light for it. Time will tell if the fuse still blows and if it does I'll be back to the drawing board but by all accounts that should be the reason for it blowing and hopefully it won't happen again.
