    Question advice please

is it worth looking at a 99 tdi diesel disco for $3500 that has 186k kms and also has

    POWER STEERING PUMP LEAK
    TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER LEAK
    STANDARD ENGINE OIL LEAKS FROM
    ROCKER COVER ETC!
there is a pic of it parked and it appears to be quite a big oil leak under it in the pic

so could it be worth a look or more trouble than its worth?

keeping in mind i am not mechanically minded and this would be my first disco

Honestly, if you are not "mechanically minded" I would advise you not buy a second hand Land Rover, unless of course you have a comprehensive service and maintenance history, or a substantial set of funds set aside for repairs.
On the other hand I would jump at the opportunity to buy the Disco you describe (although you dont say whether it is Auto or Manual), oil leaks can be fixed and 186,000klm is low. What you need to do is to get a diesel mechanic to have a look and listen and take it for a test drive. The cooling system is critical and you need to be sure that it's not overheating, a trip round the block will not help here, you need to give it a workout. I bought a 94 Disco TDi auto for $2500, spent around $2500 on repairs, H/gasket, Timing belt/kit, water pump, radiator, replaced leaking gaskets, had auto serviced and now I have a reliable vehicle, BTW mine had 380,000klms, look before you leap, Good luck, Regards Frank.

Sounds like a bargain if thats all thats wrong with it. Must be an auto if its got a transmission cooler so important that the auto box of evil is functioning properly as 4k+ for a rebuild. Should also be plenty of transmission coolers around second hand as many have upgraded to the P38 cooler for towing etc. Ask when the timing belt was done last and if over 80k you need to allow around $1000 for a new one to be fitted. Check out under the floor carpets for rust in the floor pan and rust around the Alpine windows is common on D1's.
Like Tank said get a diesel mechanic or someone who knows landrovers to check it out if poss.

A 1999 model would be a D2 and the engine a Td5 if I am not completely out of tune. Oil leaks can be sorted out, but make sure you know where it's leaking from.
    Cheers
