    Disco 96 V8 Head torque

    Hi All
Have made a bit of a stuff up and assumed I had a torque wrench that would do 20 Nm (may have read as foot pound and have one that goes that low). As the manual says it must be done to 20Nm then a further 180 degrees rotation, is there a value I can torque them to and either not rotate or rotate a smaller amount with greater torque.
Failing that anyone in Cairns have a torque wrench that does 20Nm
    Thanks
    Josh

maths 101: 20Nm is 2 kg force at 1 metre, or 6.6kg force at 30cm or about 15 pounds feet (lb.ft). Use a fish weighing scale to estimate hand force at 30cm and you won't be far off.

In regards to the degree torque,I have torqued with a torque wrench to specified torque for pre stretch bolt heads. This has been advised by Rick at Ricks 4wd on the Gold Coast who is a land rover guru.He never torques by degree and reckons this helps prevent head cracks which are more prone since the degree torquing was introduced. No need for a 4 foot bar which is what is needed to degree torque.I have had to use a 4 foot steel pole over a breaking bar to undo head bolts that have been done by degree and thought they would snap.Good luck
    Cheers

Yeah have found a few of the bolts a tad interesting to undo. Just out of interest what torque did you do them to when not doing it be degrees?
    Thanks

Hey Josh. The head bolts were torqued to 66 ft lb or 90 Nm for the 10 bolt head. Also remember to buy new bolts.
