G'day all!
Joined these forums because they look like a good resource of information, so I thought i'd post the new toy. :-)
After looking around for a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I ended up succumbing to the value represented by Discos at the moment. It's a 3-door 1996 Tdi Manual. Completely stock apart from the opposite lock bullbar and spotlights so far as I can tell. 242,000 k's on the clock, fully serviced (every 5000 k's, which is overdoing it imo) and the previous owner kept the receipt for every repair he ever had done, which is pretty good.
Just two small rust bubbles under the rubber seal on the drivers roof window. not sure its worth doing anything about them as I'll only have it 2 years. I just spray WD40 on them once in a while. Also needs what I am lead to believe is a common leak in the transfer case fixed, All4x4's in Kotara said they do a modification to fix it permanently so I will do that. Other than that it's in superb condition.
It's my first 4WD so I haven't done any serious off-roading in it yet, I want to do a course so I know the right techniques first. I have been on Stockton Beach last week though. I was only gonna go on the easy stuff but ended up following my mate up into the dunes and had a ball once I got the hang of it and worked out which gears I needed to be in. Diesel has a habit of running out of puff in the steep stuff though, but I'll work it out?
Anyway, hi all, and i'll be around :-)
Pic attached (hopefully). It's a bit dirty because I work on an open-cut mine site.

If the colour is white you can put white insulation tape over the rust hole below the alpine window as a temporary fix.
Join a 4wd club and they should teach you heaps of stuff as part of their induction. Otherwise get together with a few guys from the forum. I believe there are a few around the Newcastle area.

Try applying fishoil to any rust spots.
Nice.
Nice rig mate. Look after it and your going to have more than 2 years of fun out of that baby.
Good stuff!
Changing the timing belt should be a high priority. Ask me how I know :/
You should give Stockton a go sometime. My Disco's been a champ up there.
