Turbo Oil drip
The Turbo intake pipe has had engine oil weeping for a while but I thought it normal. I was under the car on the weekend though and noticed the flexible exhaust section has oil on it and looks like its coming from the turbo intake.
Just wondered if this is anything to worry about as some oil is expected from the engine breather pipe.
Oil does not seem to be dripping out onto the driveway or anything but i'm just wondering if some oil is expected?
Maybe a catcher can is required but the existing cyclone breather does have a return to the sump so I would have thought that would suffice.
Cheers

When my D1 stops dripping oil on the driveway is when I START to worry.

Hi Discomark,
I've had three 300 Tdi Discos now and all three have had some evidence of oil in the turbo pipework. I gauge how bad things are by taking off the bottom intercooler pipe and looking into the bottom connection. Even when I had one turbo overhauled because I thought there was to much oil in the pipework when I refitted everything I still had trace oil in the pipework.
I had one 300 tdi that had a buggered jubilee clip holding the top pipe onto the inlet manifold, everytime I gave the engine a hard time towing or something I used to get the occasional whiff of oil smoke coming into the cabin when a drip of oil landed on the exhaust manifold and burnt off, took me quite while to find the problem, eventually replaced the jubilee clip, the engine was fine after that. By what you are describing to me I wouldn't be overly concerned unless the amount of oil has started to increase.
The hoses that move the air around will eventually soften with the oil going through them all the time. I've changed a lot of mine now to silicon hoses.

Nomad9,
Which one is the Jubilee clip? Can you show us a photo. I seem to be having the same issue the last time I took the pipes off and cleaned the Intercooler. Not much oil in mine, but would like it to stop. on the other hand it will keep the turbo bearing lubed!

Hi Luke,
My 300TDi is away having a bit of a paint job right now so I can't post the picture for you. The jubilee clip in question was the one that holds the pipe on between the intercooler outlet and the inlet manifold, on the intake manifold end. The clip had cross threaded in one spot on the band which caused the screw to lock up giving the impression the clip was tight when in fact it wasn't, the oil never leaked out on tick over or when the engine was revved for short time on the driveway, only happened when the engine was under load. I simply replaced the clip and the problem went away.
