Check all screws for tightness & inspect for holes of any sort.
The plenum is also the drain.
If in doubt, add sealant under screw heads.
As the fan intake is a bit low on the Pass. side seal around that as well.
My Brother inlaw showed me some rust in the engine bay of his D1, it is in the centre of the bulk head directly behind the plenum. I was blistering paint, but a poke revealed the the bulk head is rusting. I resume its rusting from the inside out. Any clues to how water gets behind there? The pic is not of the actual vehicle, but the arrow points to the spot this rust is coming from.

Hi had the same prob, if you take your wiper arms off and remover the plastic trim under them you will probable see that the "well" section that is there is rusted through and the water has been running down the inside of the fire wall soaking the mat and rusting through.. I pulled all the pipes and wires the engine bay, forward as far as I could, removed and treated the rust, i then formed up a patch from a cut out of S/Steel chimney flue to match FW, and sikaflexed it in place when dried sprayed F/wall with matt black paint and it all looked great,, did the same to the hole under the wiper tray , and still had leaks after pulling all mats out and kick panels found the water was also seeping through rust in the very corner where the guards met the F/wall "inside the well section there " so did the same again . that was a year ago and its all been as dry as since ...hope this helps ...Gary ..
PS all the repairs excepts the bit behind the motor i drowned with Lanoteck before closing the areas up
Gary was there a lot of debris under the cover and does yours have a sunroof too?? Mine has the same problem on the bulkhead but i have been too busy with mods to look at it. Thats next on the list to fix, thanks to you i know where to start but i will use fibreglass after hitting it with a flexi shaft on the dremel to clean up all scale and rust and rust converter.. Looks like a full weekend of mess.
Hi not heaps of junk, a few leaves etc. I blew it out with the air line, got as much of the flaking rust from both sides of the steel as I could and brushes rust convertor all around the rust, then patched it up, sprayed mat black and then when dried the lono guard drowned it. Lasted a year so far, the worst bit was the floor mat and I must confess I cut it around the transmission tunnel as I could be bothered pulling all the centre console etc ..Gary
Sorry to Hijack ur thread, but I also have a rusty disco as seen below.
For the life of me I cant see where its getting it, but it appears to be tracking down the bolts that hold the bottom right corner of the dash to the steal of the car.
Any Ideas Hints Tips or known fixes for this little number???
Cheers.
