    brake light

    Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone can help, or if anyone has come across this problem before

    S1 disco tdi

    my right hand rear brake light is not working,
    left is working fine,
    and both lights come on when you turn the headlights on ?
    i've triple checked the bulb, and replaced it and swapped it
    to no avail. But its not the bulb, as the light comes on with the head lights,
    what am i missing ?

    any ideas ?

    The bulb holders have 3 little strips of copper that connect the bases and side to the main metal frame when they are installed. They can get dirty or loose. Give them a clean, a dab of grease and re-position and it should work. Check it out with a multimeter.

    The brake lights that come on with the headlights and the ones that come on when braking are different filaments in the bulb (I think, haven't been in there for a while).

    Anyway, switch your left and right bulbs over again and see if the same thing happens to the opposite side now.

    Then you definitely know that the electrics are ok and that its the bulb that is faulty.

    My money is still on the bulb. I had a dodgy bulb that looked ok do the same thing, replaced the bulb and all is fine.

    hey guys, thanks for the help,
    i took out the left side, and to my amazement the bit the bulb sits in,
    is different. P1 as opposed to P2.

    I bought a replacement tail assembly a while ago, which may have been assembled incorrectly, maybe.
