Mine was pretty soft when I replaced mine. You could go silicone hoses next time which have some reputed benefits including longer life and less inclined to delaminate and collapse thereby restricting air flow.
Hello,
Can anyone tell me how soft the 90 degree elbow hose is supposed to be (mine feels like candy floss). There has been a sucking noise coming from the left side of the vehicle (most noticeable when under load) with a 20-30% loss of power. The air intake hose and filter manifold look fine. I don't know if the intercooler hoses have ever been replaced - on the outside the 90 degree hose looks like a black ribbon has been wound onto itself. I've had the vehicle for 3 years and done ~70000kms and not had any hoses replaced. I don't know exactly how to take the hose clamps off to check the hoses either. Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi myname,
Mines pretty soft and flexible, I suspect not far from being replaced, as mentioned by Mr Ploppy I'll be using silicon next time for all the reasons he mentioned. The noise could be blowing rather than sucking, there could be a split in the elbow, you have all the symptoms, down on power and a sucking (blowing) noise.
The hoses are all held on by jubilee clips which just require the screw on the metal band unscrewing (anticlockwise) until the metal band loosens off. Righty tighty lefty loosey............ as the saying goes.
My turbo hose's have also gone soft so I ordered a set of Silicon hose's from the UK. LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 300 TDi TURBO SILICONE HOSE KIT | eBay
67.10 pounds including shipping took just over 2 weeks to get them. Good quality hoses and much stronger then the old ones.
Cheers
