Thread: Where are cheap windscreen rubbers

Yes they are nasty expensive. Cheapest ones are on your car! As I discovered recently, all the big players will tell you that they need to be replaced each time you replace your windscrean, this is not altogether true. If you find the right windscrean guy they can be cut out (from inside the car rather than the usual method from outside) without distroying the rubbers. This of cause assumes that yours are in good nick.
I can't help with a fitter in Syd though. Good luck!

A fitter at Nerang, Gold Coast, quoted me $280-- for the screen fitted without rubbers.

The reason they want to fit a new rubber is that it is easier to break the screen installing in an old rubber, and the fitter is responsible to replace the windscreen if he breaks it.
I have had a NOS rubber hanging in my garage for about 10 years , but last time I had a new screen fitted, the fitter didn't want to use it. Go figgure.

The screen in D1 is installed on polyurethane bed and trims are applied to each side to finish and complete the trimming and waterproofing. The old trims can be reused, but when they are removed they tend to bend in an arc and refuse point blank to reinstall. Generally the top one will be able to be recovered, but the sides (and the bottom) will be damaged/bent.

New ones are the go. They will install properly and finish the glass off correctly and the windscreen won't howl like a banshee!

I had the same problem and Scando is right, Replaced mine twice now and still have the same rubbers
