    Heat wrap exhaust headers

    Hi all,
Just wanted to canvas the idea of heat wrapping exhaust headers on a V8 S1 Disco to reduce engine bay temperature. Has anyone tried this pros/cons? There is some talk of heat wrap rusting the headers due to moisture retention, I guess this might be a problem in Europe but I'm in Western Australia and can't see it being a major drama.

Well, a few of us have wrapped Tdi exhausts from the dump pipe back with no untoward effects so far. (quite a number of years)

G'day. Header wrap is a good idea for heat reduction/heat soak - it really keeps the heat in the pipes - but the best is ceramic coating which commercially, is Jet-Hot coating (a company on Melbourne).

The cloth wraps on road are fine but get them soaked in mud and crap and they'll soon rot away. It's pretty fiddly to wrap headers and I would only do it on a bench.

Ceramic coating would probably cost about $400 but reduces internal temperatures significantly. I haven't experienced it in a road car, but in a race car (Ford Mk1 Escort) it's great.

As usual it all comes down to your pocket, but if you plan to keep the vehicle a while, I'd go ceramic.

Yep ceramic coating is the best.Costs a bit but does the job extremely well.My brother has a Rover V8 in his Triumph Dolomite Sprint and his headers are really close to the body.He had them coated and you can just about touch them when they are at full temp.I had exhaust wrap on my Turbo Rover and it works well.No where near as good as the coating but does reduce the heat alot.Your only problem will be if it gets wet alot and in bog holes i dont think it will last very long.
