front guard trim. maybe. done it already. i dont know still rubs

I have really searched so please dont get mad, i understand this has probably been done to death.

i have 235/85/16, with a 2 inch lift. did the trim at the back basically 50mm behind the wheel.

i did a trip to robe on the beach and some hill climbs and notice rubbing at the front part of the guard on the rear tyres, even bent it a little, also looked like it rubbed a bit on the front wheel just behind the wheel on the guard.

have anyone cut the front guards and front of rear for these tyre sizes.

    please much help needed

    Hi Kippakoop,
I'm in the process of doing the front guard cut at moment after fitting 235/85/16s. Have removed my sliders and trimmed those, now need to match the cut on the guards. Not taking a heap off guards only 15mm or so.

How bad is the rubbing at front of rear? I've not had that yet I may need to trim rear of sliders while they're off.

    Cheers,
    Rez

I did the trim a while ago and it never rubbed, but i really only drove around on the road, with a little offroad. But after a weekend of real 4x4 i noticed it. It seemed to only just rub, but on one hill with a huge rut it rubbed pretty hard and slightly bent the inside of the guard.
i will take some photos and post so all can see what i have done.

    cheers

I run 265/75R16, just a tad smaller than 235/85R16 but wider, and I have trimmed the front of the rear wheel arches.

I trimmed the bent under lip of the arch, about 10mm wide, from the bottom to about 25cm around the arch. This is the bit sort of hidden behind the rear doors.

I found under full articulation that this front arch lip would just touch the outer tread block of the tyres.

I haven't had a problem with the front tyres touching the front as I have a bullbar, but the rear of the front tyres does come quite close to the under door plastic trim bit.

Funny I have been saying this for yonks and been shouted down presumably by those who do not fully articulate. My experience is with RRC but Disco 1 AFAIK has similar architecture. If you cut off the inner flange from 12 oclock to 3 oclock it helps. I don't know whether a disco also has a bolt at 12 oclock inside but cut it off at the nut if there is one.

AFAIR the problem at the front becomes that the tyre hits the drivers and passengers footwell on full articulation/compression especially while turned. The only real fix is a 1inch body lift or longer bumpstops.
