    help with this snorkel

I posted a thread about a filter but its has been hard find one that fits, here is a picture of the situation im in regarding getting a resonable hose into the airbox. i did have one but it got a little hot from the engine and closed a bit on the bend.

the car came with this snorkel and it was not connected, i ran a ducting hose uder the air intake and around the power strearing fill to the side of the air box, had to go around the side to get under the filter inside the box.

    not working to well though.

    Any ideas................

What brand snorkel is it. You should be able to buy a right angle pipe in hard plastic that you can then run some flexible hose off and into the lower section of the airbox. Check pics on eBay for snorkels you may be able to find a pic for a similar unit and get ideas

Looks to be a Safari Snorkel without the joining piece.

    Safari - Snorkels

Non-ABS ones have a strange piece that connects the snorkel to the airbox in the same place your round hole is, but it connects to the box with a rectangular join.

The ABS ones have a round connection, but it runs down the guard, the box is moved over a bit, and it connects to the guard side.

Since you can't find a round cannister type of filter, you could:

    1) Get a better type of hose from a hose supplier and hook it up as is.

    2) Get a new uncut airbox and the proper connection and depending on which connection you get, cut the box and hook up as ABS or non-ABS type.

    3) Move the power steering reservoir closer to the front of the car by shortening that long metal arm its on. Other ones I've seen are only just far enough back to clear the battery. Then you could use a hose to connect up as before, but it would be further from the hot engine now as it wouldn't have to go around the power steering. I would use a 90 degree elbow hose to connect to the box and then connect to a flexible hose to make sure it is as far as possible form the engine, the elbow would also solve the kinking issue of the flexible hose.

You need a new airbox, whoever did that was a twit (I hope it wasn't you lol). there is no need to move your power steering reservoir from its original spot, i have the same setup including the battery. If you want to stick with that airbox visit any decent 4wd shop and they will supply you with a "cap" for the hole, it will be the same as the one that should be where the trumpet used to be at the front of the airbox. Then get yourself one of these:

Before you ask, yes that is my coil.......
If you must keep that airbox go to clarke rubber and get the spring loaded heavy duty rubber tubing, it costs a bit but is heat resistant and very tough.

Seriously though, spend 30 bucks, get a new airbox and do it properly you don't want to destroy your motor because somthing wasn't quite water tight. If you're in Melb and need help pm me, i've been through all this and would be happy to help.
