    Good deal?

Just bought a 1997 Discovery 1 with the 3.9L V8, 110,000 kms on the clock. Full service history. All at the dealer save the last which was done at an independent. Body is reasonable, a few minor wear and tear chips around the door, a tiny rust bubble beneath both alpine windows. The interior is really only let down by a drooping headliner. Matching tyres. Have about $3k of recent receipts for various wear and tear items. Never off road.

Paid $5,000. Does this sound like a good deal?

Any recommendations for getting the headliner fixed in the Adelaide region?

Also looking for advice on a good independent garage for future servicing.

    Cheers

    Hi here's a copy of a post I did a while back
"Well got sick of my saggy roof lining and pulled it out yesterday, "hint keep the cloth on as long as you can, keeps the sticky foam from getting all over you" cleaned all the old foam off with a piece of old carpet " picked up idea from here" and using a sand blast air gun minus the sand blew and rubbed the muck off, wiped over with a wet sponge, when dried I painted with PSU primer sealer U coat ..I picked up a suede finish paint for $27.00 minus 50% on sale, colour matched to the grey interior, after two coats and drying time refitted it all, it looks as good as any material will never sag again and the bonus is it can be touched up at any time latter or in my case minor scuffing when fitting. Im so pleased with the finish..Im wrapped ..all for $13.50 and about 3.5 hrs work ..Gary"

My disco is a 97 3.9, 2" lift , smart bar, big lights, good cond, 120,k, on Gas, bad rust in fire wall only but all fixable, I paid 3,000 a year ago, and i love it,...has it been with out probs,? no windows, door locks, roof lining, but its still the best of many 4WD ive owned.. Gary

    Mr Plod,
You are really the only one who can decide whether its a good deal or not, it depends whether you feel happy. I hope you had the car checked by an expert as it can be very expensive if a major issue turns up.

BUT on the surface a 110KK Disco 1 seems good value as there are lots of Kms of life left in it.

Yeah thanks Philip, you are right, it all comes down to personal satisfaction, I guess the true test is what I think in 12 months when all the gremlins have come out of the wood work

At this price point though, they really are disposable cars. If something really major happens you just move on to the next one.

Had the head lining done on my RR 89. Pulled it out & cleaned it up myself. Easy enough job with no sun roof. Adam picked it up,re-covered it & returned it for $88 inc materials. Must admit he is only a couple of km away A J Trim Seaford ph 0434 404 784. may be helpful if you are down south. jeff

Hi PSU= primer ,sealer, undercoat, its a water based "Solver" brand paint, you'd only need one litre ...mine came up great and know ones picked it a being DYI ..mine also didnt have a sun roof so was fairly easy, the only awkward bit was, as i have 3 "scuba " gas tanks and a false floor in the rear, made getting the roof in and out a little bit of a pain..Gary

With the paint , you could buy a set of Chrissy LED lights and stick them through in your favourite pattern, say your Star sign. Sure would impress the girls. Or maybe a land Rover Logo.
This is an option on the Latest Rolls Royce.

Why would Rolls offer the Land Rover logo as an option?
