Have a look in Rangerovers.net as most of the issues with Range Rovers apply to D1s.
You are buying a 20 year old car with 230KK, so it really is in the realm of an enthusiasts car, that will need lots of TLC.
You will go broke if you cannot do some if not all of your own work.
The most expensive issues revolve around the engine and transmission. The engine must hold water and evidence of nice clean green/or red coolant is important . Obviously no smoke etc. The transmission has a gear driven transfer so will have some slop and noise but it should not be excessive. The gear synchros are often weak , but the clutch should not drag.
Look for rust under the carpets and on the rear floor and around the alpine lights. make sur ethe heater hoses are not looped under the bonnet and they actually go to the heater.
I advise to get a specialist to check it for a couple of hours, and almost certainly they will give you problems that you can use to bargain.
I hope that you have another 2-4K in reserve as most often there are many things to fix.
Regards Philip A
