Thread: Is a Disco done at 300,000 k's.

Some members are getting very high mileage (930,000k) without major rebuild work. The problem buying any used vehicle though is you don't know the history and how the car has been driven, has it had regular oil + filter changes etc. In my experience the most problematic issue with the 300TDI is the timing belt and pulleys but if you replace regularly it looks like these motors can go well beyond the half million k's.

~350,000km and still going strong mechanically. I bought it at 12mths old with 30000kms. Only minor problems really. Did the head gasket at 250k. Interior-wise its looking a little tired now (needs a new roof lining). I can't see it stopping anytime soon.

Apart from regular timing belt replacement and clean oils and fluids, a tdi 300 just keeps going it seems. Mine has over 300k's and I met a bloke in the middle of the Simpson Desert a couple years back with a 94 2dr manual with 800 and something on it. He reconed it still wasn't using any oil. Of course a neglected and abused old girl would likely be a nightmare, like anything else.

Mine has passed the 300k mark and is still going strong. Regular oil changes and cambelt changes are paramount.

I recall a few years ago that the son of a well known specialist in Sydney bought a 300Tdi with 240KK on it.

I spoke to him a few months later as he was a member of the same club as I am and he was lamenting it was sending him broke.

It wasn't the engine but things like alternators, starter motors, clutches, aircon etc etc that had reached their use by date.

I always try to buy as low a mileage (kilometrage?) car as possible to try to avoid these issues. If I wanted a reliable car for several years touring I would never look at a 300KK car, about 100-120 is the max IMHO. Even if you have to spend an extra 5 to 10K , you can soon get up there with parts and labout if you cannot DIY.

I'd take on a 1M Km landy in a heart beat. 300K Km, just a drop in the bucket...

(oh BTW oldschool landy stops somewhere between 93 and 2007 depending on type and options)

I'm with Phillip A, the motor might last for ever and a day, but the rest of things might not

My imported 98 Disco commercial (the last of the tdi) just ticked over 200 000 miles (322000km). Its still going unbelievably well with regular servicing.
I will never sell it. I love it.
