The serpentine belt is not adjustable it has a tensioning pulley that once its at the end of its stretch then there is no more adjusting. If its new and squeaking still maybe the rest are right take it off and clean it and all pulley surfaces

Nicho your one confusing dude it was you that said it was adjustable...its not even adjustable with the tensioner, the tensioner is just that it applys tension to the belt to keep it taught but it cant be adjusted. when they fail the spring with in the tensioner they dont apply as much tension and effectifvely bounce...or is this what you mean:D
EDIT: hahahahah I just realised the OP has a V8 and after you wrote about your belt stretching Nicho and you adjusting yours and him saying his serpentine belt slipping I assumed he was talking about a 300, so I think people have mistakenly thought I was asking how to adjust a 300 for myself when I wasn't hahahahahahhahahah I knew it wasn't possible so was getting very confused!!! just ignore me..:D :lol2:
Yeah I know that's what happens when u work on jeeps too. The tensioner pulley adjusts it on its own. I think I need to get more sleep before I comment.

This may be too late but as a V8 owner not to be confused with the Diesel Demons out there the most likely cause for your squeak is the water pump. I had the same noise on my Disco that annoy the **** Out of me .It would push my button when sitting at the lights with the idle hunting up and down but that's a whole new thread.
Happy to say that I have resolved both problems resolved withnsome patience and the water pump was the culprit for the noise.
Haha I miss the days of all the V8 issues but it's good and nostalgic to hear about plugs and leads and hunting idles :D I was just reading this all and was going to say you should look at your water pump but I was beaten to it ;) That happened to me too with the same kind of noise and it was the water pump.
I miss my V8...wouldn't go back I love my 300Tdi but god the V8 really was a lovely drive!
