yep definitely supposed to come on when the ac is turned on
So Ive searched and not found anything - think i need a crash course on the search function....
Anyway, Ive noticed that all of a sudden the Termo fan comes on when I turn the ignition on. Dont start th motor, just turn the ignition to 'on" and the thermo fan starts to roar.
Ive checked the that AC is not on, as I believe its wired to come on with the AC on. Also made sure the AC fan switch was set to "0" just to make sure the AC switch wasnt stuck on and causing the termo to run.
Should it be coming on as soon as the ignition is turned on? I thought it was supposed to be controlled by a thermostat.
Any ideas??

what engine is it?
in the 300TDIs theres a switch in the thermostat housing which normally is open but closes above a certain temp to turn the thermo fans on when the engine gets hot - maybe thats buggered?
did it get hot recently?
Mine is off at cold starts but on when engine is up to temp. so when engine is still hot and I turn the ignition on the fans also come on.
Its the 3.9 V8. I'm pretty sure that it used to only come on when hot or when the AC was turned , but now runs all the time.
It did get hot recently. Buggered radiator caused it to overheat. I ficex all the cooling issues and the thermots were working properly until just this week.
Disconnect and take care not to ground the two leads on the thermostat housing and see if the fan stops.
If it does you have a faulty temperature switch.
