    Climate control retrofit

This may be a little ambitious, but what the hell. I have a Jan 93 V8 (pre update) Disco I am working on. The previous owner for some bizarre reason cut through between the slots on the air-con panel, presumably the idea was to get through to the back of the dash or something??

Anyway, I now have a big hole where the slides for fan speed etc stick out. What I wanted to see, given how hard it is to source parts for such an early model, was if it was possible to somehow replace all the slides and so on with something like the climate control unit of a D2.

    Thoughts anyone??

maybe the previous owner had some GPS/computer like thing installed or just wanted a proper spot for his CB?

Well, dont have any first hand experience to pass on regarding replacing the parts in question, but the following website has quite detailed exploded views of most Discos - hope that helps somewhat...

    good luck!

Anything can be done, but all equates to time & money!
    But,
With your early D1 it wii be missing a whole heap of sensors that make the HEVAC (climate control) unit work as it is an ECU in its own right.
It relays on inputs from various sensors inside & outside for it to operate correctly as well as communicating on the CAN network.

It would probably be easier to track down a 2nd hand complete dash assembly & R&R in a few hours.

    Cheers

Or buy a 38A or D2 with climate control. Then you too can get the lovely "book" symbol when the blend motors quit.
The pre update Disco had a dash which was a RRC dash underneath all that pale blue plastic.
This is almost as crude as a series with a primitive heater and "hang on" air conditioning. However it works OK for me.
To fit climate control would need the fitting of at least an update dash, and I understand that this needs lots of brackets welded on to the firewall. Heck I don't even know whether any D1 updates came with climate control, anyone know?IMHO it is as the previous poster noted lots of time and money.

    Phil,
Only the P38a & D2 came with the HEVAC climate control unit.
The D1's all had cable operated systems.
    Cheers
