    disco leak

    hey guys 1 have a 95 disco and i had to take off the rear tailshaft and when i loosened the 4 bolts from the handbrake drum oil started leaking out i havent pulled the drum off yet but im hoping i will find something when i do but i wont be able to do that for a few weeks so any ideas where the leak could be coming from would be greatly appreciated

    To amplify the previous post, the leak will almost certainly be from the output shaft seal of the transfer case. This is behind the brake drum, and if you pull the drum off you will see a big nut. If you undo this nut the flange will come off and you will see the seal behind. This can happen from old age or if the nut is loose. When you replace the seal, make sure that the felt washer or o ring is intact or replace it.
    Consult the manual for the torque required.
