    Question Hazards lights going constantly.

    OK, weird one...

Driving with a mate in his '96 V8i manual yesterday, hit a bit of a bump on a lumpy back track and the hazards came on and stayed on. There is a relay or similar you can hear clicking under the dash on the passenger side. When I indicate or use the hazard switch there is a relay under the drivers side also clicking which I assume is the indicator relay. I tried pulling fuse 4 under the bonnet and that stopped the lights flashing, but the relay inside (passenger side) kept going. The engine starts and runs fine on both petrol and LPG, so I guess it isn't the Spider. But the central locking (incl remote) isn't working now either. We had to manually lock all the doors by the snibs and passenger door lock (key) and then disconnect the battery, after driving home with the indicators contantly flashing away merrily. Aaaaargh!

    Help!

Luckily he was driving it at the time (not me), but he's now gone OS for Christmas and needs the car when he gets back so I want to fix it while he's away. Anyone got any ideas?

Normally you just turn the ignition off and back on again. It some sort of safety thing in the event of a bump that's not big enough to trigger the airbags. Mine did this constantly when I was in Russia, a real pain in the **se.
Try and get hold of a copy of the Rave manual with the wiring diagram.

It is probably due to the inertia sensor being triggered.

This triggers in a crash (or as you have found out sometimes with offroad bumps) and turns the hazards on and unlocks the doors.

There is a reset switch in the engine bay, on the firewall towards the top on the passenger side.

It is a black rubber switch that you press and it should reset.

If it doesn't reset, then there maybe a problem with the sensor/switch system.

Ah yes, sorry. I forgot to mention that I did reset the inertia switch as the first thing. But no change (and it didn't feel like it had 'reset' the switch under the cap anyway). Also tried a couple of ignition cycles and locking-unlocking but the central's not working.

I thought the inertia switch dropped out the fuel pump on petrol versions? It runs fine on both petrol and LPG no worries, so didn't think that was it?

I may try swapping my inertia switch for his and see if the problem chases it.

I've got RAVE so can look up the wiring. Was hoping someone else had seen and fixed this issue so I didn't have to...

    Great feedback guys. Thanks

Worth checking the mounting of the Theft Alarm Unit Z163 up in the passenger's footwell.
With my 300tdi I found that the hazards would start off almost at random (small bump on the road) - doors didn't lock though and the fault would clear if you shut down and re-started.
Problem turned out to be a broken mounting lug on the alarm unit allowing it to bounce about - fixed with double sided tape across the back of the unit and no probs since, even off-road.

Thanks guys. I may need to leave this until after Chrstmas due to SWMBO having a meltdown over a pending housefull of guests and the place being in such a state... But at least I have a few strong leads now and can get stuck into it when time allows.

Thanks all and have a great holiday break.
