    VDO and 300tdi sender

I have a 300tdi in my classic Rangey.. Had VDO temp gauge fitted which seems to be very sensitive to engine temp. Just need to know that the engine is not running hot when it sees a hill or when I turn on the a/c. Has been suggested that the 300tdi sender is in the wrong ohm range for the gauge. Is there a compatible VDO sender for this engine?
Also the gauge goes up when I turn lights, a/c and fan on. Have checked all earths etc. Did the same thing when connected to Rangey temp gauge in the binnacle.

Disconnect the earth wire on the gauge, and run a totally new one from the gauge to the engine block/inlet manifold. The gauge is reporting the voltage losses across all the earth cables that make up your vehicle's electrics, the separate earth carries next to no current and will not react to current draws from accessories.

    Thanks Bee uty,
Will give it a try. Any thoughts on the sender compatibility?

VDO have a range of sensors available, the one you are after has a 1/8"-27 NPTF thread with whatever terminal type you need.

Personally I like their mechanical gauge as a dodgy earth can't influence it.

you need to have the correct ohm range and ohm/degrees on the sender to match the gauge, some senders are for 120C usually used with coolant gauge then there are 150C and 200C senders more suited to oil temps etc. Look up an online catalog and you will soon find the correct sender.

Rewireing earth has worked a treat, thanks! Now to see whether there is a mismatch re the sender. Have to wait for a hot day and run the car up to Redhill.
