common problem at all? wiring? sensor?

second question is are the oil cooling lines prone to server leakage?

Crawl under the passenger side of the car
Look at the handbrake drum area
Round metal bung with a square box and 2? wires coming out of it

This is the speedo transducer ... Either clean the wire plug connection ... or try a known good one

PS: Your disco might have the older speedo set up that has a short speedo cable going towards the chassis ... and then connects to a rectangular (Transducer) box .... Just mentioning it / just in case

Yes ... Rubber hose lines from the oil pump to cooler get hard and shrink enough to leak from the crimped metal joiners

Any Hydraulic hose place can make up new sets

    Cheers

Speedos not registering .. (0 kph) ... or moving slow or up / down kph ... is usually a dirty connection.
Speedos registering higher might be a sign that the transducer has an internal failure

So the easy path to find out what's wrong .........
1: Just clean the wire plug connection
    2: Find a D1 friend
3: Swap transducers and see if it makes a difference
4: or find a wreck and buy a transducer

If the above does not work .... then your looking a bit deeper. $$

    Cheers

    Find a wreck ......

If you know how the spade ends are actually inserted into the plug (constructed) ..

Then you should be able to insert a very thin Jewelers screwdriver into the body of the plastic plug to release the holding (retaining clip) of the metal spade bit, and actually remove it from the plastic plug .....

Bit late to EDIT this .... In hindsight ... I'm referring to the Female electrical connection inside the plug ..... Remove it, then re-solder the wire (or renew the female connection)

    Cheers
