I used to have one in Vic that exact colour. It was dumped recently due to no interest.
Well I have never had my eyes poke out of my head before this.
I left half the rubber of my front tyres on the bass hwy and pretty sure I did a little poo at the same time
Ive only had the car a month and upon inspection the bonnet cable only returned half way when you let go of it, hence the carnage. I guess a bit of lube is in order on the bonnet catch people.
By board is repairable but crack across the full beam and the nose smashed in.
The roof racks got pushed Back half a foot too.
If anyone in Tasmania has a bonnet and hinges for sale, i would very much like to talk to you!

Putting "lube" on the cable was probably the cause. It held all the dust and dirt and stopped the cable moving. I once did not lock the bonnet properly on a Holden Camira, (dads car). Gave me a hell of a fright when it let go at 95.![]()
A scary experience - glad you got out of it with minimal damage
Be aware also that a non-obvious fault that could contribute to this is deformation of the striker plate (due the bonnet being slammed when the components are not quite properly aligned or adequately lubed).
The factory striker plate is minimal thinkness with a couple of strengthening ribs folded across the top.
If deformed this can misalign, and either lock the bonnet down, or, as what may have happened in your case, not allow correct engagement.
The easiest remedy for this problem I have found is to replace it with one cut out of slightly thicker steel (no strengthening ribs required) - (if that is the case with yours)
Wow that's not a nice thing to happen at all, those Discos are just speed demons I think people need to start installing those racing bonnet catches or we're going to have an epidemic!
Glad nothing too nasty happened though, that would have made me do more than a "little" poo.
About 3 weeks ago on the wide bay highway I stopped at a pulled over Disco to see what was wrong and he had had the same thing happen to him.
Scary.
Hmmm those extra bonnet catches aren't sounding so silly anymore...
It is/was a common problem with the RRc and I suffered significant damage to my turret because of it. Taught me right for loaning my car to someone so they could jump start another persons car, didn't shut the bonnet properly. First bit or road above 70KPH and up it went. Blackout at 100KPH on a dark night isn't funny.
I now have an additional strap from the bonnet to the winch.
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
Anyone with a bonnet in north tas?![]()
