    Disco V8 will not idle

Hi to all. have a problem with 3.9V8 not settling to back to idle, motor stops.

Sometimes the tacho goes down to zero, motor virtually stopped, then springs back to life at a very low hovering idle.

Mostly though, when pulling up to the lights the motor drops past it's idle setting and completely stops. No problem with restarting, turn the key and it starts, but NO idle.

The problem does not exist on the first start up of the day.

Any ideas on where to start looking.

    Sam

Clean the throttle body and Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) with carby cleaner or similar.

If you don't know where to look go and see Ant at Coffs Harbour 4x4 and he will point you in the right direction.

Do a search on here there is plenty of info about this problem. The first thing i would do is clean your stepper motor on the back of the plennum.Only takes a few minutes to do.Thats probably your main problem.

I have the exact same problem with my V8 Disco. My mechanic reckons its the air flow meter not working properly. So it either pumps in too much fuel or not enough.

    Unlikely.

Clean the stepper motor; put some Loctite 515 inside every hose that connects to the plenum chamber; make sure that the plenum and ram air housing are sealed on their joints; and if none of that works test the airflow meter,

There is a PDF about setting your maf and tps sensor voltages. I set mine accordingly and voila, it's now a dream ride. Cheap and easy.

Ask him if he is prepared to refund you if it does not work .....

......... Just as the others are saying ............
    Check for intake vacuum leaks
Clean all Air vent lines / Flame trap (breather) MAF / Stepper / Throttle body
Check and clean all Stepper / TPS / MAF wire connections
    Check base idle
Check TPS voltage (+ voltage stability when opening throttle)
    Check MAF voltage

    Cheers

This post should be made a sticky - I've just spent the afternoon trying to trace a rough idle/cutting out after replacing the injectors and seals and used this post as a checklist to hunt though. Got as far as 3. and now it idles and runs beautifully.

Thanks again to Mike and the combined brains trust.
