    oh dear

just been out for a quick 4wd up here in the pilbara while it was ****ing it down.
turns out creak crossings with a depth equivalent to a bit over half way up the windscreen (has safari snorkel) is too deep for a 95 discovery of standard height
seems alot of water finds it way through the fresh air intakes, down behind the dash to flood the floor
my 6 year old daughter thought it was the greatest thing ever!

so I just finished a job I have been meaning to do for ages, take the carpets and rubber sound proofing out to check floor condition, apart from the water, floors are in awesome condition, will spray them with fish oil or something and put it back together once the rubber foam stuff has dried out.
still smiling about the experiance, thats the important part, also important is everything still works, must have been the weekends I spent water proofing all the electrics I possibly could with dielectric grease and shrink tubing.
previously the deepest I had ventured was up to the windscreen wipers, that was ok.
    Lesson learnt

Haha great story and good that everything still works...I hate wet cars on the inside though damn things smell so bad if some of it doesn't get dried but it sounds like you've got that covered. The whole "down behind the dash to the floor" part sounds nasty, hopefully that all dries up well.

Just curious are you in a V8 or a Tdi?

while the rubber floor insulationy stuff is out throw it away.

go and grab some of the tubed or round rib OH+S floor matting and use that as underlay.

    or better

lay the latter so that the lower rib run along the length of the vehicle and cut out the bit of carpet that goes under the seats. then drying out the underside is as simple as getting the vehicle somewhere dry and putting a blower (or extractor) fan under the seats undoing the 6 screws that hold the rear carpet down and lifting the carpet a little at the back.
