    Safari snorkel dimensions

    Hi all,
I have a 1997 Disco 1 non-ABS, have just picked up an ABS model Safari snorkel, SS390, for $50.

    Should this fit?

If so can someone give me a length along the crease in the front guard panel that the front of the snorkel is from where the panel meets the indicator?

If someone had a picture as well would be awesome!!

I can work the rest out from that.

    Many thanks,
    Lee

Mines a 97 (Non ABS) and I measure 555mm from the indicator to the snorkel.

    Thanks Mark,
However what I need is the measurement on an ABS model as that is what the snorkel is.

    Thanks again though,

Ok, Yes an ABS Snorkel will fit all.

Just went out and took some pic's for you.

The snorkel measures 360mm from the edge of the indicator to the front of the snorkel.

To line up put all the studs in the snorkel and put a dob of grease on the end of each stub. Gently line up and press against the guard. This will mark where the hole are to be drilled. You can be pretty generous with the hole size (16 to 20mm) as big washers pull up on the inside of the guard, this gives you a bit of play. Use a 100mm hole saw for both tube holes in the outer and inner guards as it will be covered up. The inner guard hole will come out through a round dimple pressed on the guard but not exactly centered. If you require further pic's let me know.

    That's brilliant David,
Thought I would drill the 100mm hole first so that the greased studs would sit flush against the guard.
Not sure about the dimple you spoke of, I have a white plastic retaining clip for the bonnet release cable that seemed to be about the mark. An internal pic or better still a couple of measurements from some obvious points on the inner guard would be much appreciated.
There is no rush as I won't be fitting until after Australia Day.
Once again thanks for your help with this.

The dimple I referring to is a round press in the steel about 130mm in diameter. Have you looked at the Safari web site. They used to have instructions for the install there. It gave a measurement back from the front to the dimple for the inside guard hole.

I'm at work now until tonight but can take some pictures under the bonnet for you later. I have a Commodore air box though but the plumbing is the same.
    Cheers, David.

Sorry for the delay, work has been busy. I have not even had a chance to clean the mud and dust out from under the bonnet from a run the other week so sorry for all the dirt. I think when I clean it up I will take better pic's and post them in my profile for future reference.

Here are some more pic's, hope they help.

    Thanks for that Dave,
I was thinking it came off the filter box and through the inner guard, then ran along the inner guard and out the outer guard.
    Now I understand,
    Thanks again,
    Lee
