    DISCO 1 Park Lights

    Hi Everyone,
Finally made it to Melb last week. No probs with the disco towing a PopTop caravan in 42 deg heat. Except the fuel economy. Got new Battery in Alice as the 9month old one cooked a few cells!! and top radiator hose cracked next to the clamp at the thermostat just outside Coober Pedy. Easy fix, just shoved the hose on further and clamped.

I have a little problem with the PARK lights. When I turn them on they don't work. The headlights work fine but no warning chime sounds at all when switch is on and door open.
I have checked all the fuses and am trying to track where the relevant relay is? Still can't find the right one following the Haymes wiring diagrams. I am about to pull the stalk switch from the column and see if it's that, but not sure as the headlights work fine when switched on??
    Anybody had this problem?

    Do the tail lights work?
If it's a switch failure, they shouldn't be working either.

As Scouse says and yes I have had the same thing happen to me.

The car can still be driven legally though if you put on the rear fog lights

Have you checked ALL the fuses. Try the ones under the bonnet (drivers side- black box) 5 amp fuse (from memory) . Be careful because you probably have no tail lights either.

Second fuse from the passenger side, I think - check the lid anyway. Blown mine a few times.

    Have you checked the globes...?
The fuses are in the panel next to the steering column, there is a seperate fuse for each side, Regards Frank.

Checked everything from globes to Relays & fuses. Whilst trying to figure out which relay and working the switch, noticed out the corner of my eye that it was working and not working sometimes. Sprayed some WD-40 into the switch and worked it a few times and presto all well for now. Might have to change it later on.
    Thanks for all your input.

    Hey Luke,
Had a similar problem when towing a camper trailer across the Nullabour.. found that if I wiggled the end of the stalk, they would flicker on/off and eventually worked out that the extra tail & clearance lamps must of slightly overloaded the contacts on the head light switch up on the stalk and they carboned up a bit.. after switching on/off/on repeatedly, it seemed to clean them off and no problems since. Sounds like the WD40 does the the trick too!
    Cheers,
    Chookie

Anyone know how to pull apart the stalk switch to get to the contacts and give them a proper clean, or just get a new stalk switch( Very Expensive!!)

    Cheers
