Condenser fans.
My 1998 300 TDI has been getting a bit hot whilst running the ac during our recent hot weather.Admittedly only an increase from 95c to 100c at which point I turned the ac off, temp drops back to 95c.I noticed that the viscous fan was easy to turn on the hot motor,so whipped it off and locked it with some self tappers.....made no difference to temperature increase when ac switched on.Ordered a new viscous hub.I noticed on another 300 tdi that the condenser fans start up when the ac is switched on with the interior fan setting 1>4.Checked fuses and relay K109 all ok,tried a hot wire to the blue wire on both fans...nothing,earth appears sound[assuming it is either just off the battery negative or the other point on the rh inner guard]. I guess both fans have died.Checking their details I see they are Denso 065000-2321 fans, which are available from Cooldrive as Denso part no EM2321 unfortunately they only supply to trade. Can anyone find out a price for these fans?
I see from previous posts that others have used Calibre fans from Supercheap...are these any good and how much modification is involved?
Anyone had any luck using mid 90's Corolla fans, apparently straight swap with the motors, only lacking the drainage pipe.
I have had some difficulty removing the old fans....come to a stop.It looks as if the condenser or radiator has to come out to access the fan wiring plugs, which are sitting on top of the condenser. If the radiator has to come out,it may be worthwhile getting it rodded.
Gad the heat!

If it is like my RRC, then you just have to undo the top rad mounts and push it back a little to painfully slip your fingers down to grab them minus some skin.

Thanks Philip,I moved the radiator back a bit,but the plugs were too awkward to get free from their mounts so ended up removing the radiator.Did intend getting it rodded but the fins at the front are pretty crumbly , will replace it.The fan motors from Cooldrive were $275 each so obtained a couple of Toyota fans from the 'auto recyclers' at $110 each.Made sure they ran ok using the blue wire as positive then changed the plugs over with the brown/black to blue and black to black as negative.Put it all back together, switched ac on resulting in the fuse in the engine bay blowing.Disconnected the compressor clutch and it blew again so looks like it will all have to be pulled apart again.....had enough for now will wait until the new radiator arrives from LRseries.
