    A/C idler bearing part number

anyone got a part number for this bearing, maybe a sealed unit. mine has seized after numerous water/ mud outings. looking for an aftermarket part number to replace just the bearing hopefully, not a landrover part
    thanks

    Hi Ade

I have just ordered from overseas, 4 bearings for idlers, but as those bearing sizes are different to some of the others, the numbers of those may not help you at this stage.

First thing can you tell me is, which motor you have and then precisely which the idler the bearing is for ?
As I can give you, all of the bearing numbers used on the 300 TDi and should also be able to put you onto the suppliers as well.
The V8 motors may take me a little longer but I can to get you those numbers as well.

The AC idler & tensioner on your 300tdi (provided they are metal originals) have the# 6203 rubber sided generic bearing held in by circlips. Use a small screwdriver to prise one circlip out (Warning- they fly out everywhere) and press the bearing out. Do a search with 6203 or A/C bearing for more info.

6203's are everywhere. Watch when you are pressing the tensioner, as you can break the flanges on it.

Very popular size, used in alternators, ride on lawn mowers decks, etc.
The thing to watch out for, is that you get what you want in the way of seals, the end suffixes of the bearing type number, vary a bit, but most end with say 6203-2RS
these are doubled sealed and are the ones used in the 300 TDi air conditioner drive belt idler, I must look to see if the same is used in the V8's as well.

The other thing I should do is pull the seals out of a cheap ( Chinese ) bearing and compare the build of that, with a known brand.
I haven't the equipment to test for hardness though.

On a 300tdi, the AC idler bearing and the serpentine tensioner bearing are the same. Available from local bearing shops like SKF, should cost around $15, maybe less. Good for the spares kit for travelling.

Just replaced the bearings in both idlers - $15 for the pair (SKF) from local engineering supplies store. Started out I was just doing the A/C idler and bought the extra bearing as a spare, then found that the main belt tensioner bearing was wasn't the best so used the spare bearing there (LH thread on the pivot bolt had me scratching my head for a bit)
The following week the water pump bearing (that had felt OK) collapsed, so back in to replace the pump.
