Thanks, i was wondering about the alternator, because when i got home (after 4 awesome days in the Vic high country) i parked it and then tried to restart straight away and it was dead After a few tries it fired up. I then checked the voltage on the main battery and it was 11.88V after an hour of solid driving.
So could the problem be the alternator and if so how do i check?
    Thanks

    You have already checked.

No red light? Has the IGN bulb blown? You can check by removing the other small terminal and grounding it. NOT THE BIG ONE!!!!

This measures the voltage difference between the battery and alternator . Any difference and the IGN light glows depending on the difference.
Eitehr go to an electrician or buy a new one. If you have V belts there are how tos to fit a bosch.

    Dead Alternator

Ok, went out and checked it again this morning and it seems like the alternator has died
Will take it to auto electritian tomorrow to make sure of diagnosis.
So where can i get a good cheap alternator from?
They seem to come in various amp levels, what should i get?
I have a dual battery for fridge and hope to put a winch on soon.
    Thanks

TDI or V8 ?, V8 should be able to get a bosch off a dunnydoor or similar to fit, TDI youre up for a new one - get 100amp at least.

    Hi Vogue,
I would think you would be looking at 100 amp going by general chat. Me I get a lot of my stuff from TRS in Adelaide they can put things in my hand a lot cheaper than some of the locals, including postage.
Cheap......... not sure that is a word that goes well with LR unless you are looking for a valve cap for your wheel / tyre. Sometimes on fleabay, $400 to $500, depends on how quick you want it, no car = pretty urgent.

As I said before , if it is a V belt you can fit an 85amp Bosch quite easily.
Cost is around $200 new plus a bit to fit a Tacho output.
