The auto gearbox in my 95 V8 ES is sticking in 1st gear for upwards of 60 seconds. It only happens when I first drive the car after its been sitting there overnight, after that it works just fine.
In late Oct/early Nov it went away to be reco'd because it was just stuck in first. Took it back because it was sticking in 1st again, guy said it was a valve, took it back again after I got it back for the same reason and got the same answer. When I got it back after that it did the exact same thing but I didn't go back because I was fuming. I've just got it back from my mechanic after not running for 5 weeks (it was there for alternator/air flow meter), first thing this morning (~19 degrees outside), sticks in 1st gear for about 60 seconds, rev hard it, rev it soft, doesn't change until about 1-2 minutes into driving.
Does anyone have any ideas here as to whats going on? A mechanic at work reckons it could just need a lower viscosity oil, but I'm not mechanically minded so I'm not sure whats going on. Any help is appreciated.

Sticking governor valve, quite common and is repairable. where are you located?

Thats what he said it was, twice, and that he repaired it... twice. I'm northern suburbs Victoria. I think theres still ~2.5 months left on the warranty he give me for the gearbox reco.Originally Posted by justinc

Well he hasn't replaired it, maybe he has either cleaned it or fitted a used one. They are very sensitive to wear or dirt ingress on the plunger assembly etc, I'll send a PM to you.

Hmm, not sure if this is linked to the gearbox or not. When I put it in Drive it stalls, only when I put it in Drive and put my foot down it doesn't stall, BUT its only happened after I've got home from work in the afternoon, drive to and from work is just fine.
