It can be the oil cooler hoses, the O ring in the hose union, the O ring in the union adapter, the oil pressure switch or the oil filter (least likely IMO unless the seal is double stacked or the filter is loose)
Hi All,
I have an oil leak coming from around oil filter housing & not sure if there is anything above housing or could it be the housing gasket itself.
Regards Shane.![]()

Thanks Rick 130,
Thought it was filter at first, checked seal & replaced. Still leaking. Changsd Oil Pressure Switch, Still leaked. Will try & get some o'rigs & try that.
Regards Shane.
What about the welsh plug in the vacuum pump? i have had that leak before.
Shane, often it's the hoses, it leaks past the crimp.
Give everything a good degrease. Go for a long drive then get underneath and have a look. You might be surprised.
It will most likely be the VAC PUMP leaking either from the welch plug or from one of the pop riverts on the end plate. I thought I had a cracked filter mounting until I checked it this way.
Cheers
Luke.
Have a look at the housing for the Oil Temp control valve, its where the hose goes in above the filter at the outside edge of the filter housing. Its held on by two 8mm bolts. If you remove this housing there is an O-ring at the base. The oil leak in my car drove me nuts until I found it was this small thing, leaking down over the filter. The old O-ring was dry and cracked, AOK now.
Hi All,,
Just steam cleaned engine & it looks like it is coming from the o'ring. Next question is the o'ring a standard one or do I need to get a Land Rover part.
Regards Shane.
Don't think its standard. Temporary fix over the weekend is some non-hardening gasket sealer around the existing o-ring and on the base, leaving the o ring in place without disturbing it though, by now its a triangular and brittle. Careful removing the extension housing, the spring under it has a little bit of compression. Simon
Glad you put this on today, did the oil switch/sender, just did oil change and filter. Now it looks like it is coming out of the thread on the oil line next to the oil swith/sender. Nut is up as tight as can be, so am assuming there is an olive or o-ring in there somewhere, just going for the book when I saw your post. I feel your pain![]()
